What is oral surgery, What are the types of surgery interventions  odontostomatological

Oral surgery also known as odontostomatological surgery is a branch of dentistry that deals with all those dental problems for which a surgical intervention is necessary, and also includes Implantology and Periodontology.
The purpose of dental surgery is to restore oral balance, both from an aesthetic and functional point of view, for example, it deals with: dental extractions, gingival cyst removal, jaw bone reconstruction, dental bone grafting, gum reconstruction, dental aesthetics, bone-free dental implantology, dental prostheses. Endodontic surgery for the included elements: apicoectomy or removal of the apex of the tooth root affected by a granuloma infection and consequent obturation, retrograde obturation. Orthodontic surgery, uncovering the impacted teeth and subsequent extrusion using orthodontic appliances

The use of absolutely innovative medical equipment allows to carry out high quality standard surgical interventions with more programmable results.

Extractive surgery. Tooth extraction. Overlapping teeth, granuloma, wisdom tooth

The best known and most widespread oral surgery is tooth extraction, extraction of roots or teeth totally or partially embedded in the bone and gum. There are several causes that lead to this type of intervention, a carious or fractured tooth following a trauma, due to a periodontal disease, due to overlapping or impacted teeth, an infected tooth, in the case of granuloma on which you can intervene surgically, when there are roots that must be removed because they are destined to rot or a  wisdom tooth .

Obviously, tooth extraction is an oral surgery that represents the last solution to solve a problem related to the teeth; it takes place when there is nothing more to do. In any case, it is always up to the dentist to decide whether or not to use a tooth extraction.

The use of oral surgery takes place in a transversal way in different branches of dentistry, making possible sometimes complex dental rehabilitations.

Periodontal surgery Periodontal surgery: periodontitis

Mucogingival surgery: treatment of gingival diseases. The flaps and grafts of tissue taken from the patient's palate or of connective synthetic material, allow to cover the collar of the exposed tooth due to gingival recession, eliminating imperfections and dental sensitivity problems. Periodontal surgery treatment of the supporting tissues of the tooth strongly compromised by periodontitis or pyorrhea, through interventions  regenerative of bone and gingiva with the application of bio-materials or membranes for tissue reconstruction.

Through periodontal surgery it is possible to recover and save one's teeth even if they previously moved and seemed destined to fall. In case you are suffering from  periodontitis  it is possible that periodontal pockets are formed, ie empty spaces between the teeth caused by the recession of the bone. In this case it is not possible to remove the bacterial plaque with the normal use of the toothbrush. For this reason, if the pockets have a depth greater than 5 mm, periodontal surgery is used.

UFOs are performed in the polyclinic  curative interventions on deep gingival pockets, remodeling of the support bone (guided bone regeneration), soft tissue and hard tissue grafts respectively, we reconstruct the lost gingival tissue with the most advanced muco-gingival plastic techniques.

This way the bacteria inside and at the bottom of the pocket can be removed. The operation is carried out by making a small incision on the gum that allows you to clean the surfaces of the teeth.

Surgery dedicated to dental implantology. Replacement of missing teeth

Pre-implantology surgery: correction of bone and gingival anomalies in order to prepare the oral cavity for optimal insertion of the implants. Reconstruction interventions of the mandibular or maxillary bone that show severe resorption as a consequence of periodontitis, trauma, dental infections or neoplasms, are carried out using bio-compatible synthetic materials. Implantology  is an oral surgery technique that allows the replacement of a missing tooth through the application of an artificial titanium root, dental implant, directly into the jaw bone. The implant must integrate perfectly with the bone. This process is called osseointegration and was coined by prof. Branemark in the late sixties. Once oste integration has taken place, the prosthesis is then applied to the implant. For a better success of the intervention, the prosthesis must not be applied immediately after the insertion of the implant, but after a period ranging from 3 to 6 months.

Oral surgery. Dental implants

Bone regeneration surgery, reconstruction of the resorbed bone

It is not always possible to resort to dental implantology, in fact, if there is not enough bone, it is not possible to insert the implants. Through the  bone regeneration  it is possible to reconstruct the bone tissue on which to insert the implant. Bone coming from the tissue bank or bone taken directly and at the same time by the patient himself in intra-oral areas  mandibular and maxillary or even extra-oral.

In practice this technique consists in applying a new bone which, by filling the defect of the lost bone, will form the new bone tissue.

We have significantly improved the surgical techniques, which we use in our dental center in Tirana, for bone reconstructions or for the regeneration of bone defects in the presence of some pathological situations. In fact, the methods we apply in surgical and prosthetic interventions allow us to obtain an acceptable functional result, but also an aesthetic result that reflects above all the needs and expectations of our patients; in fact, we professionals who deal with and study aesthetics in odontostomatological surgery often deal with patients who  they ask us for a specific specific result that is functionally valid and aesthetically satisfying.
